Question: Starting my own Home-Based Direct Sales Company, do I need to file a DBA with the county?

I am just trying to get my ducks in order here...I know most women who do the home-party thing don't do it right, I have worked for my family's business so I know there are things that need to be done...

Answer: I am currently a distributor for a Direct Sales company and I will give you the information I know based from my company.

It depends on the Direct Sales Company you are with & where you live (some states require it) if you need to file a DBA. You should HAVE to... you just have to claim your income at the end of the year. You are a representative of an established business, which is why you shouldn't have to.

Your Direct Sales company should be collecting and remitting all sales tax on anything you purchase already. This is the LAW for any Direct Sales company. If YOU choose to collect and remit sales tax to the state, you need to contact the states Department of Revenue to obtain a sales tax license. Once you transfer the responsibility of the collection of sales tax to yourself, all record keeping, remittance of sales tax returns and monies due to your state (and local authorities, if applicable) will be your responsibility. You will be responsible for collecting and remitting sales tax for any items purchased for your personal use, business use, and any retail sales you make

You may need a license if you intend to sell at shows. As for a business number for tax purposes, your social security number should be suffice.

I don't have a DBA or license yet, and I haven't had any problems with my taxes, (and I claim my income on my personal taxes).

Your Direct Sales company should be able to answer this question for you, or you can talk to the Dept. of Revenue.

Question: How can I apply for a management-level job with a US company that would like to open an office on Guam?

With the plans for the federal gov't to relocate 15,000 US Marines to Guam from Okinawa over the next 5-7 years, Guam is going to be ripe for more US businesses to set up shop and capitalize on all the potential business. As a US territory, we enjoy many US based businesses already, including KMart, Hard Rock Cafe, TGI Fridays and more. Plans include a Home Depot to open later this year as well as a Ruby Tuesday's restaurant. I am interested in working for any other major company that would like to consider Guam as their next overseas venture. I am a strong planner, manager, communicator, and have very strong organizational skills. Currently I work as an executive director and am looking for better opportunities. I live on Guam and can't seem to find a way to find companies who are recruiting employees to assist them in opening a location here. Can anyone help me with this? I am sure there are potential businesses out there that would love to consider Guam for more profits.
