Question: does a Home Business in LA need a business liscence?

i do my job trough the telefphone and computer i sell ads space in different magazines, and i was wondering if i needed a business liscense from the city or county or soething like that.
also i was wondering if i could do other services like selling stuff on ebay, dry cleaning, massaging, tow truck , and vacation planner.
just trying to make a living here :S, if you don't know the answer can you lead me in the right direction?

Answer: You need to register a business name, if you are using one. If you are doing telecommuting for an employer or freelance work, you don't need a biz license. If you have any clients or customers coming to your home, you are in trouble with licensing, planning & zoning, and your homeowners insurance. If you have any employees, even part-time, you are in trouble with the IRS, state income tax authorities, Social Security, state unemployment compensation, disability insurance, possibly wage & hour laws, OSHA, planning & zoning, and more.

What on earth are you thinking with "dry cleaning," "towing," "massage" etc in your home? Are you nuts? With the "massage" you'll be busted pronto on prostitution charges; if you have proper educational training and licensing as a massage therapist, you still cannot do that in your home. Dry cleaning has an amazing array of environmental, zoning and all kinds of restrictions on it. If you work for a dry cleaners for several years and can work your way up to manager, you'll know why you do not want to try to start such a biz from scratch.

You're too diffuse, lack focus, lack any comprehension of business, and are clutching at straws. If you don't know what you are doing, don't do it! The way you are going about this, you are bound to end up bankrupt if you don't wind up in jail. To succeed in biz, you have to know what you're doing! Focus on something, learn all the ins & outs, and build your biz. If you're going to sell ad space, learn all about the biz and build it.

Answer: If this is as great of a money making deal as your web site says, and you realy believe that the vast majority of those who join will make great amounts, of money, why not let everyone pay the fees out of their future profits from this. You would make a lot more money this way.

Unless of course, the majority of people who join don't make enough money to pay your fees from this.

Tell me now, what percentage of the people who sign up for and pay for this money making plan, make enough to live off of?

The other part is this $10 monthly fee. You actually charge people to work for you. I would never pay someone to work for them. Why? Because it is stupid.
