Question: Do financial sales people make money in Canada?
I have a previous experience selling financial products to individuals back home. I have been in Canada for 3 years & I have decent job. looking for a based on commission part time job in the field of financial sales as extra income & to start my own business. I met some recruiter in financial companies but they all sound like a brain washer, I need your advice, which financial company or real estate company offer a warm leads? Which company really help their reps to get the client?
Answer: Hi there, I have been in the insurance and investment industry for nearly 10 years in Canada. I am not aware of any that provide warm leads - unless they give you existing "orphan" clients.
"Orphans" are clients who no longer have an advisor. My experience was that when an advisor leaves a company they take their best clients where ever they go to. Or if they leave the business the best clients are snapped up by the remaining advisors. So be leery of clients being offered to you - especially if you have no experience. Do you really think a major financial company is going to give an inexperience recruit their A, B or C clients? Not likely.
As for leads, I have not seen a financial company that has a good leads program.
It will be tough to find work with a reputable financial company on a part time basis.
Keep in mind that the recruiters likely get a commission/bonus for bringing you in.
With all that said ... it is a good idea to start with a major financial company to get the training and experience. Eventually you might decide to become an independant broker. But it is hard to start as an independant.
I could ramble on about this topic for a long time ... my best advice is to take your time!
