I'm considering starting a home/small business and was planning on separating my personal assets from the business assets. Which is the best way to go about this? Should I incorporate? Is there some other way I should go about this?

Answer: The answer to your question depends on the specific business you plan on doing. But generally speaking (assuming you are not going to have many employees or shareholders) you should file as a LLC or Sub chapter S corp. Hiring a lawyer will save you a lot of headaches in this process. LLC and sub ch S will save you from double taxation while limiting personal liability. Filing as a corporation will has some advantages but you will be subject to double taxation. And finally if you file as a sole proprietorship or partnership you are subject to unlimited liability which can be very dangerous financially.
