Question: Do you need some sort of business license if you want a Home Based Business?

I'm new to the Home Business thing. I dont want to work online, I have an idea for a business that I would like to start.

Val is correct. If your starting your own privately owned Home Based Business, then you will need to set up all kinds of different things. Your license, checking account, INSURANCE IS A MUST! PROTECT YOURSELF!!, You will also have to do your own billing, accounts payable, accounts receivables, etc etc. A lot of work, and a lot of money being dished out. In this type of Home Based Business, you will be accumulating a lot of over head expenses. A lot of head aches for yourself. That is why we simply partnered up with a company for our Home Based Business to eliminate these expenses and head aches.
But anyway, yeah, you need to take care of all this stuff, before you walk into someone's house. You never know when someone is going to try and sue you for damages that you did not do.

I got 3travelers checks so far but havent cashed them.

Answer: RUN!!! Even if you cash the checks and don't send in any money, if the checks are no good, you will have to pay bank fees on the bad checks. As someone said...why would they pick someone they don't know to help them out?

There is no free ride, but there are Legitimate Home Based Businesses out there. I'd never pay someone to work a job, but if you are building a business for yourself there will be an investment.
