Question: Are Moms Clubs just a way for people to promote their home based businesses?

I recently joined a local moms get together group and at first was so excited only to realize that everyone in the group was trying to sell something. Scrapbooking supplies, cosmetics, food, etc. I began to wonder if those clubs were not just about promoting home based businesses!!! Any feedback...Anyone in a similar situation or am I wrong? I would love to hear from you!

Answer: I've noticed the same thing in my area. We're new out here, and I'm about to have our first baby, so I thought I'd try to meet people "like me". I think what happens is that a lot of these mom's join for the social aspect, but are also struggling to "Work at Home" with these businesses and end up bringing it with them.

In my first week of knowing these ladies I got invited to Discovery Toys, 3 Mary Kays, Tupperware, and some sort of Erotic Toy party. Only once did someone actually ask me to "hang out". Otherwise it's all parties. Needless to say, I don't keep in touch anymore. Plus, the group wanted to charge annual dues!!

I've had better successes at my church meeting just normal people who want nothing for me, and don't see me as a referral for a party.

It's frustrating, but I do believe it's possible to meet young mom's/women who want to do more than sales parties.

Question: Any suggestions for a good place to raise a family with no extreme heat and have a thick white xmas blanket?

I am looking for a new place to live. I have young kids (10yrs, 7yrs, & 20mons), am a single mom (but don't want the single scene), somewhere away from hurricanes and tornadoes (currently live in South Texas). I want a mountain view and lake view from my home with at acreage. Work opportunities is not necessary since I have a successful Home Business (ask me for info if you want one too). Summers that don't get hotter than 85 and winters where the thick blanket of snow last for a few days or more. I have been thinking about Colorado but can't seem to decide of a city, I like Breckenridge because you are not living at the bottom of the mountain--I don't really want that. I prefer small towns verses big city. I love the TV idea of everyone knowing each other. Scenic views are very important to me since I will have lots of time on my hands now to explore.
Thanks for the help!

Answer: Wisconsin - lots of nice smallish towns that will fit your bill - not a lot of mountains but nice hilly areas - Maybe around Chippewa Falls west toward MN

Whitwater WE - not too far from the Illinois border - SW of Milwaukee - near Kettle Moraine state forest - lots of Mt. Biking trails - college town so cultural opportunities too.

Minnesota - Try the Stillwater, Taylors Falls - or if you want to be in a more artsy environment - there is quite a lot going on the North Shore area - Big water, hills, rivers, Small town feel - try Grand Marais, Two Harbors.
